Love Domain: 2020 Version

True Loves Kiss

Another Chance at Love

Recently, a rather poor interpretation of a Love Domain cleric made its way to the public in a leaked Unearthed Arcana. While we hope there are corrections made to address the thematic issues in it, I had written a Love Domain subclass years prior. I had recently posted the older version on Twitter in response to it, but it doesn’t do the community justice as I’ve grown as a designer since and I’d love to share with you the newest instances of my talents.

From us at the Mage College, we love the D&D and TTRPG community. We love what we do, and we want to share what we can with you. So please consider using this love letter from us to you in a time where love and kindness is very much needed. Expect more from us in the future, and if you’d like to support us in turn, consider joining our Patreon. Till then.

Keep creating and stay lovely. Here’s the Love Domain, 2020 version.

Love Domain

While most confuse the principles of the love for that of being lustful- dominating the senses and inspiring recklessness, true love promotes the bonds of compassion and unconditional support. Love domain clerics practice a compassionate love that promotes peace, fellowship, and interpersonal connection. Romantic love is surely not forgotten by them, as they often learn romance and the bonds it forms can be some of the most powerful instances of the acts of love. Clerics of the love domain channel those positive bonds in action and use their profound compassion to protect and strengthen their allies while being true to themselves.

Love Domain Spells

Cleric Level Spells
1st heroism, shield of faith
3rd aid, calm emotions
5th beacon of hope, remove curse
7th aura of life, aura of purity
9th circle of power, greater restoration

Bonus Proficiencies

At 1st level, you become proficient in Insight and Persuasion.

Love and Support

Your spells are an extension of your compassion, and through them you empower your allies. When you cast a spell of 1st level or higher that targets an ally, you can grant that ally the benefit of the Help action until the start of your next turn.

If the spell you cast targets more than one ally, choose the ally who gains this benefit.

Channel Divinity: End Hostilities

Starting at 2nd level, you can use your Channel Divinity to instill peace and end violence. As an action you present your holy symbol, and each creature within 30 feet of you that can see and hear you must make a Wisdom saving throw. If a creature fails its saving throw, it can’t attack or cast harmful spells for 1 minute. At the end of each of its turns, a creature affected by your Channel Divinity can make another Wisdom saving throw. On a success, the effect ends for that creature. You can’t use this feature on a construct or a creature with an Intelligence score less than 3.

Font of Empathy

Empathy bears its own rewards, and the more it is practiced, the longer it lasts. Starting at 6th level, when you cast a spell of 2nd level or higher that targets an ally using a spell slot , you regain one expended spell slot. The slot you regain must be of a level lower than the spell you cast and can’t be higher than 5th level. If you are also a target of the spell, you do not gain this benefit.

Potent Spellcasting

Starting at 8th level, you add your Wisdom modifier to the damage you deal with any cleric cantrip.

Love Knows No Bounds

Beginning at 17th level, when you finish a long rest, you can choose a number of willing allies within 30 feet of you equal to your Wisdom modifier. You and each of those creatures gain the benefit of the telepathic bond spell until the next time you finish a long rest. While bonded this way, you know each creature’s emotional state, hit point total, and distance to and direction of each ally. Additionally, you can target one of the other creatures bonded to you telepathic bond with a spell regardless of the spell’s range as long as you are on the same plane.

  1. For the 17th level ability would you still need to be able to see the allies you’ve bonded with to use spells like healing word?
